This week (30 October to 5 November 2025) the overall weather-related picture garnered from Radio Ergo listeners across the country changed from the previous week, with a greater number of callers to our feedback platform speaking of drought and lack of or poor rainfall, than those reporting beneficial rainfall. Callers in scattered parts of northern and central regions reported rainfall in their areas, whilst in the same week more callers in northern, some central, and southern regions including Gedo, complained of severe drought, or delayed or inadequate rain. One illustration of this varied pattern came from Sanag region in Somaliland, where we had callers from northern, mountainous areas such as Biyo-Gadud and Erigabo citing rainfall, whilst others in northeastern Badhan cited drought. Further south and west in the vast region, callers in El-Garadag and Fiqi-fuliye, as well as callers in Sool region, complained of severe drought. Many of the callers across the country mentioning drought talked of weak and dying livestock and general hardships facing communities. As pastoralists continue to move in search of water and grazing, some callers in Sanag and Mudug spoke of the depletion of resources and spread of livestock diseases among herds. Meanwhile, in southern riverine areas a few callers spoke of river flooding.
Radio Ergo’s audience feedback platform is free to call from anywhere in the country. Callers generally share updates on their local livelihood conditions, as well as engaging with some of the radio’s thematic programmes by asking questions to experts or commenting on topics raised.
