Somali families who have returned from Yemen are asking for help in returning to their original homes in various parts of Somalia.
The 300 families are temporarily sheltered in a camp in the port town of Berbera in Somaliland, after fleeing Yemen by boat four weeks ago.
Maka Abdi, one of the people in the camp, said she wanted to return to Baidoa in Bay region.
“I am asking to be assisted in returning to my native town and get out of leave this camp,” she told Radio Ergo’s local reporter.
Dhuwada, 75, who lived in Yemen for 13 years, said she wanted to return to Mogadishu but had no house there and nowhere to stay. She said she was desperate to leave Berbera but needed help.
“I fled from Sana’a with my grandson. I left behind my two grown-up children. I originally fled to Yemen from Mogadishu after my husband was killed in a mortar attack,” Dhuwada said. “The living conditions in this camp are unbearable. It’s overcrowded, toilets are few and children are falling sick, mainly with skin diseases.”
There are also some Yemeni refugees in the camp. One of them, Adna Abdi, said she had come to Berbera because she had other option. “I don’t have anywhere else to go. I will stay here because I have fled my country due to war. At least we get given food in the camp on a daily basis,” she said.
