Displaced families in Jowle IDP camps on the outskirts of Garowe say they are living without shelter after heavy rains destroyed their tents and makeshift houses.
Amina Mohamed, a displaced mother of four children from Baidoa, called on aid agencies to provide them with tents and plastic sheets.
“Makeshift houses and tents are now too old to ward off heavy rains, because they were worn out by the sun even before the rains came,” said Amina.
She also expressed concern about the health of her four children, as fear grew in the camps that the rains would trigger waterborne diseases and pneumonia.
Ali Nur Ali, one of the camp leaders, said more than 200 families whose tents were destroyed by the rains now needed urgent humanitarian assistance.
He complained of poor health services in the camps and lack of employment.
