Consistent with recent past weeks, most calls between 22-28 January 2026 to Radio Ergo’s audience feedback platform contained descriptions of the harsh drought conditions and their impact on lives and livelihoods, and appeals for aid or assistance. The week’s calls came predominantly from across central and southern regions, with some from the north. (We are looking into a possible technical issue preventing the usually stronger flow of messages to the Ergo platform from listeners in northern regions). Livestock callers spoke of diseases, both known and unknown, causing animal deaths and sickness. Several callers expressed concern over malnutrition in children and pregnant women and wanted advice. Two callers in parts of Somaliland cited rainfall, whilst the bulk of the calls were focused on failed rains, drought, water and food shortages, dying livestock and failed farms.
