This week (17-29 October 2025), callers to Radio Ergo’s audience feedback platform announcing rainfall and improving conditions in their areas outnumbered the calls about drought. Nevertheless, there were still a substantial number of calls from northern, central and some southern areas – notably Gedo region – complaining about the drought crisis and its ongoing toll on people, livestock, and farms. Additionally, a few callers reported river floods along the Shabelle and Dawa rivers. Callers celebrating rainfall and the revival of farms and grazing came mostly from central regions, with some from northern areas, as well as Hirshabelle, Bay region, and parts of Jubbaland. More than half the total number of callers were from women this week, who spoke largely on themes of the positive or detrimental weather conditions affecting their communities, as well as on IDP issues, and jobs.

Note: Radio Ergo’s long established call-in platform is free to call from anywhere in the country, and captures voice messages from listeners wanting to share with wider audiences about their living conditions, as well as those responding to thematic programmes they engage with on Radio Ergo’s daily broadcasts. ‘Ergo’ in Somali means ‘envoys’ – and callers anticipate that their voices will be shared with a wider audience, including those responsible, or able, to respond to their needs and to act on the issues raised. Many also call to connect with experts participating in Radio Ergo’s livestock, farming, and other thematic interactive programmes.
