A new wave of locusts coming from Ethiopia and Yemen is likely to invade Somalia in the coming weeks, experts warn, adding to the woes of Somali farmers and pastoralists. The new locusts may not only destroy vegetation but also leave behind larvae leading to yet another generation of locusts. Dr Hared Abdullahi Nur, Field Crop Protection Officer in Garowe for the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)’s Desert Locust programme, speaks about the prospects.
The programme is presented by Radio Ergo’s Abdirahman Taysiir.
