Swarms of locusts across various regions of Somalia are currently eating up farm crops, clearing gazing land, and spoiling water sources. There are concerns over the long-term impact the locusts will have on food insecurity, inflation, and the loss of livestock fodder.
In this programme in our series, Dr Hared Abdullahi Nur, Field Crop Protection Officer in Garowe for the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)’s Desert Locust programme, discusses the long-term effects of the locusts. He also explains why the locusts have increased so rapidly.
The programme is presented by Radio Ergo’s Abdirahman Taysiir.
