Yet pesticides are the only effective control mechanism against the desert locusts ravaging parts of Somalia. In this programme, we explore first the types of pesticide being used to control the locusts.
Dr Hared Abdullahi Nur, Field Crop Protection Officer in Garowe for the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)’s Desert Locust programme, responds to the concerns raised by farmers and livestock herders over safety risks.
The programme is presented by Radio Ergo’s Abdirahman Taysiir.
