blankCommunity leaders in Baidoa have launched a campaign encouraging displaced farmers from Bay region to come back home in order to harvest their farmlands.

The campaign was announced after concluding a two-day training course organized by local leaders and experts for the region’s farmers in Baidoa. The training, which brought together more than 250 farmers, focused on methods of increasing harvests so that the region can produce sufficient food for its residents.

Mohamed Aden Qalinle, a member of the farmers association, said it was time for farmers to return to their farms instead of struggling with their hard life in IDP camps. He said the farmers had fled from their original homes in Bay and Bakool regions due to conflict, drought and famine in recent years.

Another farmer, Hawo Hassan Omar, said the farmers could only return if security improved and they had enough seeds to plant their farms.
