Internally displaced families in Arladi camp in Beledweyne’s Buundaweyne neighbourhood are appealing to the government and aid agencies for aid.
More than 870 families have pitched makeshift shelters in Arladi, which was set up in 2014. They fled from conflict and drought stricken areas including Tiyeglow, Wajid, Bulo-burte and Jalalaqsi in Bakol and Hiran regions.
Arladi camp chairman Mohamed Adan Isaq told Radio Ergo’s local reporter that families lacked all the basic necessities.
Dahaba Guure, an elderly woman who arrived two weeks ago, said: “I fled my area due to war, hunger and the impact of blockades on the roads, so I came here to get support and a better life, but I and my nine grandchildren have not yet received any assistance.”
Hiran’s deputy chairman of social development affairs, Sheikh Osman Ali, said they feared outbreaks of diarrhoeal disease in the IDP camps in town during the hot season.
