(ERGO) – The biggest proportion of calls to Radio Ergo’s nationwide audience feedback platform this week (18-24 April 2024) were from listeners announcing and celebrating the arrival of rainfall in their areas, in some cases after long and challenging periods of drought. These calls came from across the country, with noticeable numbers from Togdher and Sanag, Bari, Nugal and Galgadud, and southern regions especially Hirshabelle, Banadir, Bay, and Gedo. On the other hand, a smaller though significant number of callers, notably from Sanag and Galmudug, complained of drought, high temperatures, and water shortage affecting livestock. Some callers in Hirshabelle and Jubbaland spoke of their fears of flooding, and a few said that floods had already affected them. Some callers said they had been affected by deadly clan clashes in Middle Shabelle and Hiran. This week, 37% of callers were female, which is significantly higher than the normal average on this platform of 20-25% female callers. Most of the women called to speak about the benefits their communities were experiencing from the rain, with others speaking about floods, drought, and health and nutrition.
