The swarms of desert locusts plaguing many parts of Somalia remained the primary concern of most callers to Radio Ergo’s independent feedback platform this week (28 October-2 November 2020). A new development was the high number of calls about locusts received from Middle Shabelle region. The other point of note was the increased number of calls about water shortage and food insecurity, mostly from northern regions. Coronavirus was still a topic of concern for some callers.

The majority of calls to Radio Ergo’s independent feedback platform this week (3-9 November 2020) were about the influxes of desert locusts, especially across central and southern regions, causing widespread agricultural damage and loss of grazing for livestock. Notable this week was the rise in calls from Hiran, and the Shabelle regions. There was also a significant number of calls from communities facing water scarcity and food shortages, particularly in the north.
