The calls about prolonged severe drought just surpassed the number of those reporting rainfall in this week’s batch (16-22 March 2026) of feedback collected on Radio Ergo’s independent nationwide call-in platform. Some of those mentioning rain indicated that it was scattered or inadequate, or that it began and then stopped. Many callers talked about livestock losses and failing farms, as well as water scarcity and high prices. Also, many callers appealed for aid. The rejection by traders of the Somali shilling notes was also a topic of concern for callers in southern regions.

(ERGO) – Calls about continuing drought dominated this week’s batch of feedback (9-15 March 2026) to Radio Ergo’s nationwide call-in platform, alongside a lesser number of callers reporting rainfall mainly in central and across scattered southern locations. Callers in some locations noted that the rainfall was less than expected or inconsistent. Farmers in several southern regions complained of crop failure and loss of livestock due to the drought. Drought calls from Lower Shabelle region this week were prominent. Two callers in Beletweyne, however, reported the sudden rise in river water levels despite the lack of rainfall. On other topics, several callers complained about the rejection of the Somali shilling by traders in favour of mobile money payments. Females accounted for about one third of the callers, speaking on topics including drought and rainfall, floods, health and mental health, livestock, IDPs, and one mother in Dollow reporting her young son as a missing person.

(ERGO) – Callers to Radio Ergo’s independent audience feedback platform this week (2-8 April 2026) presented an overall mixed picture with regard to weather patterns across the country. A number of callers across parts of Somaliland, parts of Galgadud region, and a few southern areas spoke about rainfall, sometimes heavy and sometimes more sporadic, that raised their hopes of recovery.

At the same time, a bigger number of callers spoke about continuing drought causing food and water shortages, livestock losses, and general hardship for communities. These calls came from parts of Somaliland, many locations across Galgadud, Hiran region, and a few from Bay and the Shabelles.

Farmers from parts of Galgadud complained of lack of water and challenges in irrigating crops adequately. Others including in Middle Shabelle were plagued by crop pests. Livestock callers described diseases affecting goats, camels, cows, and sheep.

Female callers this week spoke mostly about rainfall or the persistence of drought and its impact on their lives. They also spoke about nutrition, livestock diseases, conflict, and the need for aid.

(ERGO) – The calls to Radio Ergo’s independent audience feedback platform this week (26 March to 4 April 2026) show a mixed picture across the country in terms of weather conditions and their impact on people’s lives and livelihoods. Callers noted rainfall in many regions, notably Sanag, Puntland, some central areas, and southern regions including Gedo. Some of these callers noted that they now enjoyed replenished water sources, although others indicated only sporadic and scattered rainfall. At the same time, the platform received a far larger number of callers saying they were still afflicted by severe drought conditions, with livestock losses and food shortages, and that rainfall had not arrived in their areas. Whilst an overall pattern would be hard to discern, these callers came largely from Mudug and Galgadud, as well as from Hiran, Middle Shabelle, and Bay and Bakool. However, there were many callers to the weekly farming programme, indicating that farmers were planting. Livestock diseases remained a concern to pastoralists calling the radio vet experts. Two callers living near rivers wanted help in averting floods. The topic of nutrition was popular week among women callers, and the mental health programme also resonated with audiences, judging from the feedback.

This report covers calls received on Radio Ergo’s nationwide audience feedback platform within the date range 12-25 March 2026. Due to the Eid season and some technical challenges on the platform, we were unable to meet our usual weekly target of processing and analysing calls. However, in this report period callers remained preoccupied by the drought and its heavy toll on livelihoods across the country, mentioning livestock losses, and shortages of water and food. Many callers asked for aid or assistance, as they waited for rainfall. Towards the latter part of the period, a number of callers from different regions mentioned receiving rain, although some noted that this was scattered or inconsistent. Livestock diseases among drought-depleted herds were also a concern among callers. Around a third of all callers were female, speaking on topics including drought conditions, livestock disease, conflict, rainfall, and nutrition.

(ERGO) – The call this week (5-11 March 2026) to Radio Ergo’s independent audience feedback platform again focused mainly on the impact and intense hardships caused by ongoing drought. A small number of callers in scattered areas across the country reported some rainfall and spoke of anticipated recovery. Many callers appealed for aid, with several questioning distribution of the government-run Bahnano cash aid safety net. Callers on drought issues mentioned decimated livestock herds, food insecurity, and lack of access to water. The calls also included people engaging with Radio Ergo’s thematic programmes on livestock, agriculture, health, environment and climate change, and other topical issues.

(ERGO) – This is our first capture of audience calls during the current ongoing season of Ramadan. The report analyses the experiences, needs, and requests of callers to Radio Ergo’s nationwide audience feedback platform during the week 26 February to 4 March 2026. The majority of callers were preoccupied by the harsh impacts of the drought on their lives and livelihoods. In terms of numbers, there were more callers from central regions than from other locations. Many described losses of livestock and crops and population displacements; many asked for aid and support with their basic needs. Some reported health issues among their communities, whilst many livestock callers raised questions around diseases affecting their animals and wanted treatment or other help.

Consistent with recent past weeks, most calls between 22-28 January 2026 to Radio Ergo’s audience feedback platform contained descriptions of the harsh drought conditions and their impact on lives and livelihoods, and appeals for aid or assistance. The week’s calls came predominantly from across central and southern regions, with some from the north. (We are looking into a possible technical issue preventing the usually stronger flow of messages to the Ergo platform from listeners in northern regions). Livestock callers spoke of diseases, both known and unknown, causing animal deaths and sickness. Several callers expressed concern over malnutrition in children and pregnant women and wanted advice. Two callers in parts of Somaliland cited rainfall, whilst the bulk of the calls were focused on failed rains, drought, water and food shortages, dying livestock and failed farms.
